I went to a New York Red Bulls game last night.

In case you don't know, the New York Red Bulls are the local MLS team.

MLS stands for Major League Soccer.

They play in Harrison NJ.  Or at least, that's the PATH stop that we had to get off at.

So you may be wondering why on earth I went.  It was a summer associate event and we were short associates.  I was in a deposition for most of the day and wanted to just relax with a beer and get some stadium  food.  So I went.

It wasn't the worst thing in the world.  The stadium is pretty nice, although you have to take two different PATH trains to get there.  I'd say 40 mins from 33rd and 6th.

Our seats were in the big fan section.  I'm sure it has some official name but I'm unaware of it.  But flags were passed back for us to wave, and the people around us were singing and chanting for most of the game.    We sort of took part, but not really, as we didn't know the songs.  There was some flag waving by us, but only minimally.

The one cheer we all got behind?  During the second half, when the opposing keeper has a goal kick, the fans wave their hands at him, and then when he finally kicks it, they all scream "YOU SUCK ASSHOLE."  I liked that one.

They stopped selling beer at the 55th minute, but we loaded up during halftime so it wasn't too bad.

The game ended in a 1-1 tie, which isn't ideal, but certainly better than a 0-0 one.  The opposing team scored on a pretty sweet bicycle kick, and we scored on a nice cross for a gimme goal.  We also saw Thierry Henry have a couple nice plays.  Even in the very end of his career he is still a draw; the number of Henry jerseys in the crowd was quite impressive.

If it wasn't so far away I'd go back.

James and his wife treated us to a muay thai fighting event this past Friday.  It was pretty cool.

I got to see a guy get hit about as hard as I've ever seen anyone get hit before.  And he was out cold.  Like, couldn't get back to his corner.  Like, they had to bring the stool into the middle of the ring for him to eventually sit on.  Like, they couldn't start the next fight for awhile because the one doctor was tending to him for so long.  I really hope James can find a video of the shot in question, because holy cow that punch was amazing.

And all I have from it is this lone picture of doctors and people crowding in the ring.

For the longest time, we've been waiting for the latest season of Breaking Bad to arrive on DVD.  We didn't see it when it originally aired, as we were catching up on the earlier seasons.  So we pre-ordered the latest season on amazon.com.  It was supposed to arrive in March.  Then they decided to push it back to who knows when.  Kim says its June.  I say DAMMIT.

In the meantime, its been difficult to keep myself ignorant of what happened last season.  I read things like warmingglow.com, and also New York Magazine, and I really have to keep vigilant of what I see.  For instance, just today, in New York Magazine there was an article on Aaron Paul (which I quickly passed over). Thinking I was in the clear, I skimmed the rest of the magazine, only to see this box on the left that said something like "most unforgettable scenes" and there was I think a picture of a deformed person and "Breaking Bad" was somewhere near that picture.  I averted my eyes and basically through the magazine down.  That's what I'm living with.

After we got decimated in bowling tonight (thanks to some awful bowling by me), I did some work and looked at some internet.  Warmingglow.com?  Sure.  And then randomly in the middle was something about Gus and how some scheduling thing caused him to be fired?  I'm not sure, I started reading the headline and then tried to get away from the page as quickly as possible.  What the hell is that story doing there NOW?  Argh.

Screw you whoever is making these DVDs.

Two comments on Mad Men, both unrelated to the substance of the show:

1)  I like that the first 15 minutes of the episode generally have no commercials.  I hate that the last 30 minutes of the show is interrupted by commercials every five minutes.

2)  The "previews" for the next week's episode may be the most useless previews in television history.  They basically are one word or two word cuts with no continuity whatsoever.

Don (in office):  DO IT!
Peggy (in apartment):  Work?
Roger (in office): [takes drink]
Don (at home): Hello!
Pete (in car): The...

Yet I still wait for them anyway.

This past weekend we spent here: Mohonk Mountain House.  It was a surprising good time.

Usually our weekend getaways involve:

1)  A wedding in another city;
2)  A trip to Atlantic City or Vegas for gambling; or
3)  A trip to some beach

This was a different kind of trip for us.  Kim summed it up best:

It feels like we're in Maine.

Which, when you live in a big city, can be a good thing every now and then.

We rented a car and headed up on Saturday morning.  The last time I drove in NYC was around 8 years ago.  It took us about 15 minutes to get on the FDR, and mind you, I live an avenue away from the exit for the FDR.  It was a mini-debacle, but soon enough we were on our way.  An hour and a half later, we were driving through New Paltz, NY.  We stopped at a liquor store for some friendly conversation with the locals, and after a harrowing 2 mile drive along a road that really could have used a railing to prevent a possible fall down the mountain, we arrived at the place.

Situated on a lake, it looks sort of like a small castle.  It felt like a resort, but in a rustic kind of way.  There was a nine-hole golf course, an 18-hole putting green, horseback riding, hiking trails, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, croquet and bocce areas.  You could take a paddleboat or rowboat out onto the lake, or take a carriage ride around the area as well.  And if you're interested in this sort of thing, there is a spa where you can get a massage, facial, etc.

We didn't partake of everything.  We played 9 holes of golf, played some shuffleboard and bocce, and also got a couple's massage in the spa.  The food was actually surprisingly good; it definitely exceeded expectations.

Its certainly a place I would consider going back to.  Its pretty family friendly, so this will be more especially attractive when little Bok Choi pops out of Kim in October.

Kim is now more concerned with my fitness as a parent because I didn't know what the term "swaddle" meant. It sounds like a made up word! Swaddle a baby? Is that like spanking it? Anyway, I know now, so little Bok Choi Lee will be just fine.
